By default, files cannot be overwritten. If a file is uploaded having the same name as one already present, a series number is appended to the name ( filename_(2).ext ) You can use the renaming functionality to change this.
To change this so files can be overwritten, go to the Upload Settings tab and check the “Allow Overwriting” box near the bottom.
“You can use the renaming functionality to change this.”
What is meant by renaming functionality? Is the renaming functionality a function of the plugin, WordPress, or some other thing? I’d like to get some semblance of overwriting for my end-users, if possible.
This is a protection so a file cannot be accidentally, or purposely, over-written. This effectively deletes the original file. The next version of Simple File List will allow a full front-end file management option; deleting, renaming and moving files to folders.
